Che Gutierrez

Che's art takes numerous forms, appearing in strange places, from strange angles, and with strange company.  The art here is mainly a collection of DIGITAL PAINTINGS created using computer, sometimes mixed with hand-drawn sketches.

"Growing up, I used to have sketchbooks of inventions I would create, ones that I truly thought would make me famous.  All of my favorite art was fantasy and science fiction art, and I would try to make futuristic scenes and characters.  Quite often I was humbled (or envious of) other artists who I thought were much better than me, finding out the hard way that what I did best was be myself.  I find now, that a computer allows me to experiment faster, which is what this art is based on.  Nothing I make on the first try works.  A pc allows me to erase/create what I want very quickly, because my ideas don't wait around for me. One notable influence for me is M.C. Escher, though many of my childhood friends are huge influences as well.

"In elementary school I was chosen to represent my school with a drawing I had made.  I continued to fiddle with art through the years, but moving most of my energy, heavily, towards music.

A few years ago I started experimenting with digital art, and I have been making progress ever since.  I came to a point where I was confident enough to show my art.  First producing prints, I shopped them around to several galleries where some still remain.  A few years later I decided to make my art into giclees as a commercial idea, and soon after stumbled into my first show."
